Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Ultra Lightweight, 500K Folds Durability
As foldable phones gradually enter the public eye, their unique form and diverse usage scenarios have won the favor of many consumers. However, when choosing a foldable phone, durability has always been a key concern on users’ minds. Will repeated folding lead to hinge loosening or body damage? These questions reflect consumers’ urgent demand for long-term reliability in foldable phones. Recently, Samsung announced that its new generation flagship foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold7, has successfully passed a 500,000-fold test — not only a breakthrough in Samsung's screen technology and precision design but also a firm response to users’ needs for long-term companionship.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 weighs only 215g, making it more lightweight and portable compared to similar models on the market. It can easily fit into a pocket or small carry bag, completely freeing users from heavy burdens. In its folded state, the body is only 8.9mm thick with smooth and sharp lines; when fully unfolded, the thickness is further reduced to 4.2mm. Whether using the outer screen one-handed or unfolding the inner screen for immersive viewing or work, the slim body provides a comfortable grip, making daily use more effortless and relaxed. But this slim design doesn’t come at the cost of durability — it passed rigorous testing by the internationally recognized certification body Bureau Veritas. Even after 500,000 folds, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 screen function remained completely intact.
Bureau Veritas stated that this durability test standard is 2.5 times stricter than previous benchmarks. The test was conducted over 13 days at 25°C, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 remained fully functional after 500,000 folds. Based on the average user's folding frequency of 100 times per day, the device can support up to ten years of normal use. Even in high-intensity scenarios of 200 folds per day, its lifespan still exceeds six years.
So, how did Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 achieve such outstanding durability while maintaining a slim design? This is thanks to a series of innovative technologies. In terms of screen structure design, Samsung restructured the panel based on the principle of bulletproof glass. Just like bulletproof glass uses multi-layered structures to absorb and disperse impact, Samsung increased the thickness of the outermost UTG ultra-thin flexible glass by 50% and introduced a new high-elasticity adhesive between panel layers. This adhesive has over four times the recovery performance of previous materials, significantly improving the panel’s ability to absorb external shocks. Additionally, Samsung replaced the previous carbon fiber layer in the Galaxy Z Fold7 with a titanium-based mesh layer, greatly enhancing the display's bottom strength. The use of titanium also helps achieve an overall thinner design.

For the hinge, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 uses a new ultra-thin precision armor hinge. Its waterdrop design and multi-track structure not only give the device a slimmer and more elegant profile when closed but also evenly distribute stress, reducing crease visibility and further improving durability. Meanwhile, the body frame and hinge housing adopt upgraded reinforced armor aluminum, with strength and hardness increased by 10% compared to the previous generation, providing more reliable protection. The outer screen cover uses Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2 ceramic material, and the back panel uses Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus® 2 as well, delivering excellent durability whether in daily commutes or travel, resisting scratches and impacts effectively.
In addition to its excellent durability, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 also shines in other areas. In terms of display, it features a large 6.5-inch outer screen for smoother typing and an 8-inch inner screen — the widest in the Galaxy Z Fold series — for an immersive viewing experience. Performance-wise, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy mobile platform and a 4400mAh battery, handling multitasking and heavy gaming effortlessly. As for imaging, the rear triple-camera system led by a 200MP wide-angle main camera brings a more professional multi-scene photography experience.
From slim design to stronger durability, every detail of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 reflects Samsung’s deep insight into user needs, completely breaking the stereotype of foldable phones being “bulky and fragile.” Furthermore, the successful 500,000-fold test is Samsung's commitment to product quality, giving users peace of mind to fully integrate the Galaxy Z Fold7 into all aspects of their daily life.
